Usual Problems of Progressive Spectacles

No matter how many advantages progressive spectacles have, how advanced they are, we should keep in mind that they are not perfect. Nothing can be perfect. As a matter of fact, there is an inherent problem or shortcoming that will naturally be caused by progressive spectacles. Like other forms of multifocal reading glasses, the problem of peripheral vision loss is to some degrees inevitable. This can not be completely avoided. In fact, it is not objective to singly sing the praises of progressive lenses' unique and sophisticated design.

When the gradient of increasing lens power enables the wearer to see clearly at all distances, including the near, the intermediate and the distance, peripheral vision loss is an inherent side effect because of the narrow vertical range of undistorted vision. To some extent, progressive eyeglasses are born to be associated with this problem. It is easy to understand that each part of the lens responsible for one vision range becomes narrower. While this problem happens to bifocals and trifocals slightly, it is more seriously linked with progressive spectacles. Taking the intermediate vision zone for example, some wearers of progressive glasses can not even see more than 25% of a computer monitor. And they have to move the head from side to side in order to get a comprehensive view of the screen and the content on it. An approach to make a compromise is to use tailored progressive lenses especially for computer work.

Progressive spectacles have been benefiting and satisfying a great number of presbyopic patients all along its history. Compared with bifocal reading glasses and trifocal reading spectacles, progressive glasses made of progressive addition lenses make some significant improvements. For instance, the bothersome problem of image jump can be completely eliminated by using progressive spectacles.

It is true that the power gradient of a progressive lens can prevent the users from getting visual fluctuation or experiencing image jump that will probably occur in bifocal or trifocal eyeglasses. Progressive spectacles will never cause this problem. By molding a wide range of lens powers into a single lens, it is quite significant while evaluating its benefit of bringing comfortable power transition. Putting aside the non-functional benefit of bringing more attractive lens appearance, these functional advantages mentioned above should help progressive glasses gain greater customer acceptance. However, the truth is that nothing in this world is flawless. Progressive reading spectacles are not exceptional in this case.

If you understand nothing is perfect, you can forgive the little problem of progressive spectacles. Even they are not perfect, they are among the best.
